How to Screen Record on Mac: You can record the whole screen or the part you select.

If you use macOS Mojave or later, press Shift-Command (⌘) -5 on the keyboard to see the onscreen controls to record the entire screen.
Record the share selections from the screen or capture a still image of the screen. Your container also records the screen with QuickTime Player.

Click on the onscreen controls—the pointer changes to the form of a camera.
Click on any screen to start recording it, or click Record onscreen controls.
To stop recording, click on the menu bar. Or press Command-Control-Esc (Escape).
Use the thumbnail to crop, share, save, or perform other actions.
Record a selected part of the screen
Click on the onscreen controls.
Slog to select the area of the screen to record. To move the entire selection, drag from inside the section.

To jump recording, click Record in the onscreen controls:

To stop recording, click on the menu bar. Or press Command-Control-Esc (Escape).

Crop, share and save
After stopping recording, a video thumbnail appears briefly in the lower right corner of the screen.
The recording is automatically protected if you take no action or slide the thumbnail to the right.
Tick on the thumbnail to open the recording. You can then click to trim the video recording or share it.
Slog the thumbnail to move the recording to another location, such as a document, email, Finder window, or Trash.
Control-click the thumbnail to see more options. For instance, you can change the save location, open the recording in an app, or delete it without saving.

Click Options in the screen controls to change these settings:

Save to: Choose where recordings are automatically saved, for example, on the desktop, in documents, or on the clipboard.

Timer: Choose whether to start recording immediately or 5 or 10 seconds after clicking the record control.

Mic: To record your voice or other audio along with the recording, select a mic.

Show floating thumbnail: Select whether to show the thumbnail.

Remember the last selection: choose whether the choices made the last time you used this tool are using by default.

Show mouse clicks: Select whether to show a black circle around the pointer when clicking on the recording.

Open QuickTime Player from the Applications folder, select File> New Screen Recording from the menu bar.
You will then see the onscreen controls described above or the Screen Recording window described in the steps below.
Before you start recording, you can click the arrow next to it to modify the copy surroundings:
Select a microphone to record your speech or other audio with screen recording.
To monitor the audio while recording, adjust the volume control (if the audio is fed back, reduce the volume or use headphones with the microphone).
Show a black circle around the pointer when you click, select Show mouse clicks on the recording.

To start recording, click, and then do one of the following:

Click wherever on the screen to begin recording the entire screen.
You can also drag to select an area and Record what’s inside it by clicking Start Record.
Click on the menu bar or press Command-Control-Esc (Escape) to stop recording.
When you stop recording, QuickTime Player will automatically open the recording.
Now you can play, edit, or share the recording.

When you save a recording automatically, the Mac uses “Screen recording date and time .mov.”

To cancel the recording, press the Esc key before clicking to record.

You can open recordings with QuickTime Player, iMovie, and other video editing or viewing apps.

As a DVD player, some apps may not be possible to record your windows.
